A horse has died after a shocking fall in a jumps race at Whanganui.

Guy Fox, trained at Whanganui by Kevin Myers, was euthanased due to the injuries the seven-year-old gelding suffered in the running of a 3000m hurdle race on Thursday.

Revolution was leading race three on the card but fell at one of the jumps and the trailing Guy Fox collided with the fallen horse.

Trackside TV reported that Guy Fox was put down because of his injuries.

It is understood Fox's jockey Kayla Veenendaal escaped injury, but Revolution's jockey Aaron Kuru was taken to hospital with a leg injury.

Race four was delayed by five minutes due to the fall in race three but racing has since resumed.

Guy Fox, a winner of seven races and $126,450 in prize money, was having his 39th start at the races.

The Wayne Marshment-trained Hamiltonian won race three in the hands of jockey Shaun Fannin.
