Search and rescue looking for Raglan man

Police are searching for a Raglan man who hasn't returned from a hike.

A 40-year-old man is missing after setting out on a rugged track near Raglan.

Search and Rescue teams were looking for the man, who was last seen at the Te Toto track on Sunday.

"His car is still in the car park and we have teams out looking for him at the moment," Waikato police Senior Sergeant Ray Malcolmson said.

The family raised the alarm on Monday afternoon.

The man has walked the track before, Malcolmson said.

Search and Rescue would be searching overnight Monday while conditions allowed they and would resume the search in the morning.

The Raglan Travel and Visitor information page says the track was mostly unformed, with steep, rough or muddy sections.

It said the track was suitable for people with good fitness, and moderate to high-level backcountry skills and experience, including navigation and survival skills, were required.
