April the giraffe and her boy calf are doing well (Video)

April the giraffe gives birth to a baby boy in a New York zoo, as millions tune in by a live webcam stream in anticipation of the event.

April the giraffe and her boy calf are doing well after a vet check today.

Animal Adventure Park posted on its Facebook page that the calf weighs 58.5 kg and stands 1.75m tall. 

April is said to have recovered perfectly and is eating "everything in sight".

The baby is nursing well.

The calf was born yesterday at the zoo in Harpursville, New York, about 209 km northwest of New York City.

The wait for April to give birth raised global interest with a livestream leading up to the birth.

The zoo says there will be a contest to name the newborn.
