Name revealed for Hamilton woman accused of murdering man
A woman accused of stabbing a man to death in Hamilton earlier this month has been named as Carol Takua Waa.
Name suppression lapsed for Waa, 61, when she appeared via audio visual link in the High Court in Hamilton on Tuesday morning.
She faces a single charge of murdering 55-year-old Gerald Wiremu Waa.
Police were called to a flat in Te Aroha St, Hamilton, on Saturday, March 11, where the victim was found.
Carol Waa, who is being represented in court by lawyer Kerry Burroughs, has been given a date for a one-week trial, beginning on August 28.
She was further remanded in custody by Justice Sarah Katz to next appear on that date. She has a pre-trial callover on June 20, however her appearance has been excused at that time.
Justice Katz noted that a bail application will be filed in the future, and a separate hearing will be held for that.
