Facebook star Bruce the cat fundraising to publish a book

Bruce was small enough to be held in one hand when van Beek found him.

Kiwi internet sensation Bruce the cat hopes to release his own book to help teach children to be kind to animals.
Bruce's owner Kathryn van Beek has started a Kickstarter page to help publish the book.
Currently $13,119 has been pledged towards their goal of $20,000.

Bruce the cat has become internet famous with over 30,000 Facebook fans.

The picture book, written and illustrated by van Beek, was based on the real-life story of Bruce.

"The story has a rhyming structure which makes it fun to read aloud, and it has a subtle message about caring for animals," the Kickstarter page said.

Van Beek found Bruce as a small kitten and cared for him while also documenting his journey on Facebook.

Bruce became an internet sensation with over 30,000 fans across the world.

In order to put the book into production van Beek had asked people to donate money in return for rewards.

There is also an option to donate the books to The Animal Rescue Network, a charitable trust dedicated to helping stray and abandoned cats and kittens.

The Kickstarter page closes on June 22 2017.
