Psychic medium offers 'healing and comfort'

Howick psychic medium Melissa Mills starts a nationwide tour at her hometown Monterey Theatre on June 8.

Psychic medium Melissa Mills is kicking off her nationwide Whispers From Above tour in her hometown Howick.

It starts at the Monterey Theatre on Thursday, June 8, with the modern medium's live show set to exhibit examples of "evidential mediumship".

The 30-year-old first became aware of her spiritual intuition when she was just nine, though it wasn't until she was training to be a primary schoolteacher at university that she discovered her ability to connect with the spiritual world.

The French-born, mother-of-two brings energy to the stage and promises a show that not only entertains, but connects audience members with loved ones who have passed on.

"My live demonstrations are fun, empowering, healing and definitely entertaining," she says.

"I have my own unique way of bringing mediumship in a way that is relatable and not scary.

"I feel this is something everyone should experience. We've all been touched by death and really, that contact with our loved one offers comfort."

Melissa accepts that her work can divide opinions. She says it's hard, however, to doubt evidential mediumship, as she can pass on particular, detailed messages.

"I can give you specific details about the person I bring through. Tattoos and jewellery are common details, and they're quite specific. You can't make that stuff up."

Mills describes her readings as helping people to receive insight into their lives and their connections with loved ones they have lost.

Raised in Africa, Melissa moved to Howick with her family when she was nine, having also lived in France.

"I've grown up here. My mum Isabelle had a beauty salon and I taught at Pakuranga Intermediate, Point View School and Farm Cove Intermediate.

"I even remember when poor little Baxter the dog went missing in Howick three years ago during wild weather."

Locals called on Melissa to use her ability to find the popular pooch.

"I could see he was on a beach and sure enough that's where he was found. The community here is incredible. We pull together."

Whispers From Above is at Howick's Monterey Theatre on June 8, 8.30-10pm.

Mills continues the Auckland leg of her tour at the Spencer on Byron Hotel in Takapuna on June 29, Centre Stage in Orewa on July 26, and the Lincoln Green Hotel and Conference Centre in Henderson on July 29.
