Bethells Beach property which hosted the Power Rangers and Xena up for sale

The barn was built for the New Adventures of Black Beauty in 1989.

Sir Charles Pemberton had big plans to run roughshod over local Maori and build a health spa, before a volcano and some pesky kids foiled his plans.

Later that century, Kiefer Sutherland would end up serving as a Vietnam War medic at 224 Bethells Rd. Believe it or not, the war medics of Bethells Beach saw a lot of action in the Waitakere ranges.

Hercules and Xena survived the place well enough, despite constant interference of squabbling sand-fighting deities on the surrounding dunes.

Inside the homestead.

All fictional of course, but then make-believe is big money. Licensed salesperson Melvin Plaisier, of Barfoot and Thomson, says you can expect a "reasonable income" from the film crews who visit this Wainamu Farm property up to 20 days a year.

"The whole of New Zealand's film industry, and the international film industry, is becoming aware of this little area and it's becoming more and more popular for filming."

The sand dunes bordering the property played host to several episodes of Xena.

For the first time in 60 years investors and well-heeled movie buffs have the opportunity to buy into the property, Plaisier says.

Bordered by sand dunes and with Bethells beach nearby, itself the site of a Taylor Swift music video, this 44-acre property has played the part of ancient Greece and Rome in Hercules and Xena. It has even been a "morphin" ground for spandex-clad Power Rangers during the recent Power Rangers Dino Charge TV series.

On occasion it stands in for clean, green New Zealand itself too. For both Children of Fire Mountain, where Pemberton's well laid plans for exploitation were foiled, and the UK production of New Adventures of Black Beauty.

The barn from Black Beauty is still there.

"In 12 years of real estate it's probably the most unique and interesting property we've had in the time I can recall," Plaisier says.

It includes a three bedroom house designed by the Emmy-award-winning director of Avatar, Kim Sinclair.

With Bethells on one side and Lake Wainamu, and its sand dunes, on the other, Plaisier says this property is "about as unique as they come".

"There's not a lot of areas in the Waitakeres where you have that much room

"It's certainly got a bit of character."

A showreel of the movies and television shows filmed at 224 Bethells Rd:

* Children of the Fire Mountain (1978-79)
* Angel in Green (1987)
* New Adventures of Black Beauty (1989-1990)
* Hercules (1994-1999)
* Xena (1996-2001)
* Soldier's Sweetheart (1998)
* Power Rangers (2015-)
